REMINDERS SENT TO LOCAL BUSINESSES
Business Tax Receipts Must Be Renewed By September 30
If you are doing business in Polk and haven't renewed your county local business tax receipt for this year, you might find a reminder postcard in your mailbox this week.
With the expansion of the business tax renewal period by approximately 30 days, beginning in July instead of August, and with a renewal deadline of September 30 fast approaching, the reminder notice should be especially helpful to businesses that have not yet renewed their county local business tax receipt. TAX CERTIFICATE SALE POSTS RECORD SALES
Supplemental Sale Was Held In July
Joe G. Tedder, Tax Collector of Polk County announces that all but 7,248 tax certificates were sold in this year's tax certificate sale which was held on June 1. This represents only $985,266 in remaining tax dollars as compared to 14,404 tax certificates and $6,952,711 remaining from last year, reflecting the best overall results of any tax certificate sale since 2006.
Based on the success of this sale, Tedder says over 99.49% of the 2009 tax roll was collected and distributed. Interest rates also dropped for investors from 13.98% last year to 5.62% this year.
The remaining 7,248 tax certificates went on sale beginning in July 1-9. The interest rate for all of the certificates will be 18% based on Florida Statute 197.472.

PAY WITH VISA ONLINE; BUT NOT IN TAX OFFICES
Visa Everywhere Except In The Tax Collector's Office
Effective May 1, 2009, VISA is no longer accepted at the counter in Tax Collector's Office branches. VISA has ordered government agencies, including the Polk County Tax Collector's Office, to stop conducting lawful counter service payment transactions for tax payments, such as vehicle registration and business taxes. VISA is requiring government agencies, including the Tax Collector's Office, to sign merchant agreements that would force them to pass on VISA's charges to all customers, not just those who are using their credit cards at the counter.
MasterCard, American Express & Discover continue to be accepted by the Tax Collector's Office at the counter, through the mail, by way of automated telephone and online at www.PolkTaxes.com. Because of VISA's order, the Tax Collector's Office is limited to accepting VISA by way of mail, automated telephone and online transactions. For more information, click here...
